QED - Quantock Education

The Quantock Education Project (QEd) was a 3-year schools project run by the Quantock Hills AONB Service, starting in 2002 and continuing until March 2005. The aims were to:

  • Raise awareness of the special character of the Quantock Hills AONB

  • Build on the schools work already being undertaken by the AONB team

  • Work with Quantock schools to:

    • Develop relevant teaching activities and resources

    • Set up and run FREE schools fieldwork each year

    • Provide FREE teacher training opportunities

    • Create a QED website for pupils and teachers

  • Provide a FREE resource folder to every Quantock school

The AONB Service has a long tradition of working with schools and other groups to promote environmental education, so this project was built on solid foundations, backed up by a wealth of detailed knowledge and expertise about the Hills.

In the future the Quantock Hills AONB Service are planning to bring the old Qed website up to date and incorporate it into our new website.  In the mean time there are education packs full of ideas, resources, information and links to help schools make the most of the Quantock Hills, these are available in hard copy from the office and also downloadable below.  Please note that these were developed back in 2005 so may not be in line with the current curriculum.  If you would like more information about the Quantock Education project please contact quantockhills@somerset.gov.uk or 01823 451884.
